FACILITIES & DIRECTIONS

SECCHIA STADIUM

Secchia Stadium features 120 chair-back seats, a new press box and sound system, and accessible seating, while brick accents on the outside of the stadium will architecturally match historic Jenison Field House, McLane Baseball Stadium, and the hitting and pitching facility. The total cost of construction was $2 million.

Chairman Emeritus of Universal Forest Products, Secchia is also a member of the Athletic Director's Advisory Council. His volunteerism and contributions to Michigan State date back nearly 50 years.

Secchia also provided the lead gift for the College of Human Medicine's new headquarters in Grand Rapids, now known as the Secchia Center. Secchia also co-chaired the fundraising effort to construct the Smith Academic Center at MSU, the academic resource center utilized by MSU's student-athletes.

MSU also has access to the Duffy Daughtery Football Practice Facility for use during inclement weather. The building provides the team with a large area of practice turf which allows for game-like practice and situational play.

The Michigan State softball locker room includes spacious lockers, a flat screen television, comfortable furniture for relaxing in between classes or prior to practice and a computer work station. Full shower and bathroom facilities are also located within the locker room suite.

INDOOR PITCHING/HITTING FACILITY

MSU's offseason training for the baseball and softball programs improved immensely during the fall of 2007 with the completion of the new hitting/pitching facility adjacent to both Secchia and McLane Stadiums. The $1.4 million dollar facility has four batting cages and two pitching mounds which give the Spartans an edge in offseason training.

With an area of 10,900 square feet, the programs have plenty of room to work on their skill development. In addition, there are coaches' offices and storage room for equipment which makes working out at the facility convenient.

JENISON FIELD HOUSE

Jenison Field House is currently the home to several Spartan athletic department offices as well as women's gymnastics, wrestling and men's and women's track and field. The building underwent a major renovation project in 2001, and also houses locker rooms for baseball, rowing, soccer and softball.

Jenison is also the home of Michigan State wrestling. Featuring one of the nation's only dual meet wrestling platform, fans are treated to a truly unique wrestling experience. In addition, the Spartan wrestling program unveiled a 20-by-25 foot mural on the north curtain in 2001, highlighting former Spartan stars. Banners commemorating MSU's eight Big Ten championships and the 1967 National Championship team hang in the rafters, bordering the platform.

For gymnastics, the competition arena runs East and West to accommodate 5,017 fans. Seating is available on all two sides of the event setting, while fans can also utilize the second level of seating in the Field House to view the competition.

Members of the MSU gymnastics team benefit from a spacious practice facility, located on the third floor of Jenison Field House. The spacious area allows for multiple practice apparatus and room for an athletic training location inside the practice facility. Also on the third floor is the newly renovated locker room. The team area includes individual lockers for each gymnast, bathroom and shower facilities, as well as a computer work station.

JEFF ISHBIA FIELD AT MCLANE STADIUM

Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium was renamed in September of 2024 (Full Release Here). The Spartans' home stadium, formerly known as Kobs Field at McLane Stadium, was dedicated during the 2009 season, and is one of the finest baseball facilities in the Midwest.

The ballpark has 2,500 seats, with 400 chair back seats and 2,100 bench-style seats, a press box, backstops, all new fencing and handicap-accessible seating, with brick accents to architecturally match historic Jenison Field House and MSU's hitting and pitching facility.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic shortened season of 2020, a new scoreboard was installed at Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium.

During the 2021 season, new padding was installed on all the outfield walls and around the entire playing area.

Jeff Ishbia Field at McLane Stadium cast a brighter footprint on Old College Field with the addition of lights prior to the 2019 season. The lights project was completed in early March and the Spartans played their first game played under the lights in 135 years of MSU baseball on Friday, April 5.

Located in the heart of Old College Field, the facility is Michigan State's most historic athletic site, with its unique atmosphere part of the rich tradition at MSU. Sitting on the banks of the Red Cedar River, the facility is known as a hitter's park because of the excellent background supplied by the trees lining the river.

The field underwent renovations in summer 2006 to resurface and make improvements in the playing area. The entire field area was skinned, and several layers of old dirt and sod were removed. With a stripped surface, work was then done to level the field. The pitcher's mound and both bullpens were rebuilt and graded with fresh dirt, as was the infield. Kentucky bluegrass grown at MSU's renowned Hancock Turf Research Center was used to re-sod the field. In the summer of 2015, McLane Stadium at Kobs Field had a new electric field heating system installed by Sports Fields, Inc., becoming the first baseball field in the world with the state-of-the-art system.

Thanks in large part to an anonymous contribution of near $1.4 million from a Spartan alum, Michigan State announced in January of 2019 that lights were to be installed at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field and Secchia Stadium, the respective homes of Spartan baseball and softball, in preparation for the upcoming 2019 season. The lights project was completed in early March and the Spartans played their first game played under the lights in 135 years of MSU baseball on Friday, April 5. Spartan legend Nolan Moody got the night started by throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.

Michigan State celebrated the first-ever night baseball game at McLane Stadium at Kobs Field in grand fashion with a suicide squeeze bunt 1-0 walk-off win over Indiana State in 10 innings. Senior catcher Nic Lacayo perfectly executed a suicide squeeze bunt to drive in fellow senior, infielder Royce Ando with the winning run, sparking off a jubilant celebration as the Spartans stormed the field and dogpiled on the infield, and the newly installed lights flickered in celebration.

The LED lights are identical to the lighting system currently at Spartan Stadium, home of Spartan football, and DeMartin Stadium, home of Spartan men and women's soccer, as well the Breslin Center, home of MSU men and women's basketball, Munn Ice Arena, home of Spartan hockey, and the Duffy Daugherty Indoor Practice Facility, utilized by MSU football and a majority of MSU athletics teams. Michigan State was the first baseball and softball teams in the Big Ten Conference with this type of lighting system by Musco Lighting.

The deepest section of the ballpark is in center field, measuring 400 feet, with the shallowest part being down the right-field line at a mere 301 feet. Former Spartan Kirk Gibson launched the longest ball ever hit out of Kobs Field in 1978 when he smacked a 550-foot blast that cleared the trees in right-center and landed on Adams Field (formerly known as Landon Field). The right-field fence was heightened to 20 feet prior to the 2011 season.
